AVAROC proposes rockfall barriers that have been submitted to full-scale tests in compliance with ETAG 027 for the protection of infrastructures and transit links against rockfalls. These rockfall barriers can be installed rapidly, constituting a highly efficient solution at a reasonable cost.

 

Specifications

 

The RAV rockfall barriers proposed by AVAROC® are designed to catch boulders ranging in volume from a few tens of dm3 to several m3 / (100 à 5000 kJ). These rockfall barriers are available in a range as follows:

Rockfall barriers in compliance with ETAG

 

This range of high impact (1 000 to 5 000 kJ) rock-fall screens has been submitted to full-scale tests in compliance with the current European ETAG 027 rulings. After a high impact at MEL (Maximum Energy Level), the screens were ranked in category A.

 

Research and Development

 

Our RAV rockfall barriers are consistently subjected to research and development programs. Full-scale tests have been carried out to confirm the compliance of the screens with the rulings of ETAG 027. All tests were performed under the supervision of the Laboratory of Geology Geotechnics of the University BTU (Brandenburgische Technische Universitat), Cottbus, Germany.

 

Moreover, a series of other, more stringent tests than those established by ETAG 027 were carried out in order to establish their point of failure.

 

Supplementary tests

 

Protocol specifications for this supplementary range of tests included 4 throws into each of the 3 modules installed, with no repair works and/or maintenance being performed during the process of the tests.

 

 • Dissipated energies in central module: 2 successive throws at 100% of SEL,

 • Dissipated energy in far right module: 100% of SEL,

 • Dissipated energy in far left module: 10% of MEL.

 

It can be noted that in the case of the RAV 3A (1 000 kJ), rockfall barriers, this protocol was supplemented with a throw at 100% of SEL on post N°2.
